Purple Sympathy

Well it has a been a busy few weeks. I have now returned to work full time after being off for my hand surgery. I have only been back for a few weeks but I am already feeling the time loss. No more naps with my daughter, no more scrapbooking in the afternoon or late into the night. Well, I guess this is life! I am looking forward to my scrapbooking getaway with some girlfriends this weekend on Saturday.

Here is my card I promised from my earlier post today. I made this card for some very close family friends. I always turn to black and with for my sympathy card, so doing a coloured card for them was a bit of a challenge for me but I love the way it turned out. I was able to enter my card in a few challenges, one at The Sweet Stop for the sketch challenge, one at Paper Sundaes for the inspiration photo, and one at Raise the Bar for doing something different then you normally do .

Card Formula:
I started with the card sketch from The Sweet Stop. I made a few changes but tried to keep to the sketch without making the card feeling to busy. The base of the card is a deep purple card stock. I used some basic Grey pattern paper from a really old line for my background. The other pattern papers are some miscellaneous papers that I found in my scrap bin. My image is made using the brayered background technique. I made the moon by placing a scrap circle on my page before I brayered the background. The background is made using Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum and Pale Plum. I then stamped "Upsy Daisy" from Stampin' Up in Basic Black ink over my background. The ribbon is from my stash of Bo Bunny Ribbon. I placed 3 sugar coated black brads in three corners and in the last corner I placed my sentiment. I didn't have a small enough sympathy stamp so I printed it using my computer and punched it out using the Word Window punch from Stampin' Up. I then layered it onto the Modern Label Punch from Stampin' Up. The image reminded me of the inspiration photo at Paper Sundaes for this weeks challenge. Because I never make coloured sympathy cards (i.e always black and white ones) I entered it in the April Fool's Challenge at Raise the Bar.

ENJOY!

Missing in Action ...

I feel I must apologize for my lack of posting. I was doing so well for awhile and then I seemed to fall off the face of the earth. I have been busy preping formy upcoming class, as well as planning two more cards for my next class. Sadley in all my preping I also had to make a sympathy card, which I will post tonight or tomorrow. I also had an interview for a new position in my current job place. Talk about nerve racking! I don't think I have done an interview in about 10 years. Well I will be keeping my fingers crossed. I am hoping to be back into the swing of card making this week so I can get some Easter cards done. Thanks for stopping by.

Happy St.Patty's Day!

It is funny the things that we do for our significant others. My husband asked me the other day if I could make some St.Patty's Day cards for his co-workers. I thought this was kind of a funny request but then he explained the joke. The nickname of his co-worker Pat is "St.Patty" so he thought it would be funny to give everyone Happy "St.Patty" Day cards with a photo of Pat on the front. I thought it was kind of funny so I decided to help him out and make them. When I showed him my prototype his comment was "You didn't have to go all out, I just wanted something simple". I kind of chuckled a bit as I thought I HAD kept it pretty simple! I wanted to show off my creation but decided that he might not like his picture posted on the internet so I blurred out his photo and created a second one with a Fluffle image so you could get a better feel of the finished card. Luckily I created my card to fit in a few challenges so the joke was still a benefit to me.

Card Recipe:
I started with the sketch from Get Sketchy and some handsome hunter cardstock for the base of the card. I made an 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 easile card. This fit into the challenge at Paper Sundaes of a multifold spring card. I decided to only use papers from my scrap paper pile, since it was only for a joke I didn't want to "waste" any of my favorite papers. The arrow is made from an old cereal box and coloured with some green embossing powder. With my scrap papers, ceral box and the green colour my card fit into the "Go Green" challenge at Raise the Bar. I also used my new "Go Green" Stamp from Stampin Up and stamped it on to Very Vanilla paper. Now the card fits into the Green & Cream Challenge at Stamp Something. I needed to make the card say "Happy St.Patty's Day" somewhere on the card, as per my husband's request. I decided to use the labeler tool from Around the Block. I have had this tool for a few years and have never taken it out of the box. I managed to fit the card into four challenges, not bad for a joke card!!

Enjoy!!

Daisy Bella Thank You!

I made this card for my mom. She is going to Toronto for an appointment and she is staying with my cousin for a few days. She wanted a card to thank her for her hospitality. This is what I came up with. I was able to enter this card into the challenge at KL Stampin N Scrappin.

Card Formula:
I decided to used the sketch from KL Stampin N Scrappin for this card. The two pattern papers are from scraps I had in my scrap bin. I stamped the "daisybella" from Stamping Bella onto Whisper White cardstock and coloured her with Copic markers. I then stamped her again onto Very Vanilla cardstock and cut her out with the Oval Scalloped Nestabilities. I felt that the Very Vanilla was still to bright so I glimmer misted the whole thing with the new Crushed Shells Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angles. I then cut out my image from the Whisper White cardstock and paper pieced her onto the Very Vanilla one. Her flower is paper pieced from another scrap from my scrap bin. The flower isalso Glimmer Misted and then raised up with a pop dot. The middle of the flower is a Bella Bling Gem. I sewed around the pattern paper with my sewing machine using a green thread. The sentiment is from a Close to my Heart set.
The base of the card is a tan Swiss Dot paper. I finished off the inside of the card with matching cardstock and a stamp from the "Sassy Suzy" set from Stampin' Up.

ENJOY!!
